Well I’ve got to rave about this, being a Redlander and beer lover, having one of Australia’s best craft breweries a stones throw from my base. Funny enough about 25 years ago I used to have beers in just about in the same spot as where Bacchus Brewing Co is now, when it was a dual screen Drive-In Theatre. Now I get the opportunity to do it again, but now with a better selection of beers and i don’t have to sneak them down. Over the back fence of the brewery was one of last of the Redlands turf farms. (Possibly ideas for a few heritage brews names).
I’ve been buying home brew stuff from Craftbrewer (Bacchus Brewing Co sister company) for a few years and had a few testers from what they had on tap, as well. I was envious when seeing inner city Brisbane bars having Bacchus Beers on tap and finding it hard to travel over Tingalpa Creek to go to the big smoke in hope there was still beer in the keg. So after hearing from the crew at Bacchus a while back that they planned on kicking off a bar my hunt for the Bacchus Brew was made a lot easier.
So the Cellar Door has been open for a week now and I’ve managed to frequent the bar three times to date. I dropped in the day prior to opening just to see if they needed any practice pouring a beer. Josh poured their first ever tasting paddle (paddles are made from the wood of whiskey barrels) for me while they worked out the glassing arrangements. With 15 beers available on tap ranging from traditional style English brews to their dessert style beers, there is a brew style for everyone. I’d scratched the first 5 off the tap list and come Friday the other 10 were ticked of a plus a pizza, and then an Obama, and then a Sex Drugs and Rocky Road…..
Third trip was a quick splash and dash for a Growler fill of Lamington Dark Ale and a glass of White Choc & Raspberry Pilsner as the Sex Drugs and Rocky Road keg had run dry…….. So after 16 beers different beers poured from the tap I’m still yet to find a Bacchus beer I don’t like and I’m happy to keep trying to find one!
The bar’s setup so you can see the brewery in action, boiling of the mash gives of a great aroma through out the bar, a bit of Brisbane’s history can be seen in the bar top and tables in the way of the old Milton Ten Pin Bowling lanes with the Pins converted into lamps and hard wired
to the table tops. A Billiard table and dart board graces the games area, a traditional at your local, and now there’s the start of a beer garden with the laying of some Astroturf this week.
Designated drivers can even have a drink at the bar, from another local Redlands beverage business, by way of the Alchemy Cordial Company’s range of unique cordials for a charitable
gold coin donation. The Bacchus crew, on
