Unfortunately it’s way too late to run a competition to name my first born…or my second for that fact, but it isn’t too late to help name my first commercially brewed beer! Well that’s not entirely true, while i did have a hand in brewing it, it was a collaboration brew with fellow Brisbane beer blogging mates – Darren from 250 Beers, Jason from Brews & Bacon, Roger from RPMbeer, Judd from Brewed Crude and Bitter, and David from Beer Food Brisbane  and of course – Bacchus Brewing Co (Ross, Bill, Matt and Toshi).

So why did we brew this beer? Well if you haven’t heard by now Bacchus Brewing Co is holding the Brumalia Winter Solstice Beer Festival on June 20th & 21st where 25 brewers from across Australia (and 1 group of beer swilling bloggers) were invited to each brew a dark beer at Bacchus for this event. So all up there will be 26 dark beers on tap for the 2 days.

Now with six beer bloggers putting thier heads together, you’d think we’d be able to come up with a name on the day, but with so much Research & Development going on in the brewery while brewing….well we’ll leave it at that!

Anyhow, we decided the best way is to throw it out there to see if anyone on the interweb could come up with the right name!

The beer we brewed is a Black Saison using Equinox hops, so hopefully that’ll give you a few ideas for a cool name. The winner, who will be selected by us bloggers will win a Brumalia t-shirt.

Each year my family’s yearly Christmas getaway takes us south for a few weeks to just over the Queensland New South Wales boarder, to the Tweed Coast. A great area with some great townships and watering holes! Generally a day trip here and there takes us to one of the more touristy towns in the vicinity, and Byron Bay gets a visit from us most years. Even though I’d normally stay away from this alternative holiday mecca during this period, this time a strategically planned trip would see some benefits – in the way of a few brewery visits to the two breweries that Byron harbours.

Brewsvegas is a grass roots, community minded celebration of Brisbane’s burgeoning craft beer culture set to run from the 22nd to the 29th of March, 2015. We aim to promote innovation, creativity and collaboration to help nurture and grow a local beer scene already replete with passionate contributors.

The inaugural Brewsvegas in 2014 saw 40 venues stage 90 events through the week, displaying fantastic creativity, passion and individuality. In the year since, many new venues and events have sprung into being and action; to spread the good word and champion great beer. As Brisbane’s thirst for better beer has continued to grow, so have the quantity and quality of venues offering good beer, and so has Brewsvegas. Now in its second year, some 65 venues will celebrate Brewsvegas with some 120 events for the week.

Now I’m not sure I want to put this out on the interweb about this liquor mart as it’s my local craft beer store, and for me it’s like being a kid in a candy store, and I love candy, and I’ve got it all to myself! I can go in there and select from the weekly delivers with out fear of them selling out before I get there.

Over the last few years there’s been a boom of reality style TV series. I’m not talking about the quality shows like ‘Big Blurter’ or ‘Biggest Snoozer’, ones like American Pickers, Auction Hunters, Duck Dynasty and any Beer related series are the ones I enjoy.

2014 is now in the past and so is the 672 unique beers I’ve tried. My Craft Beerscapade started just over 12 months ago and it’s been fun, I’ve traveled interstate and locally sampling craft beers from bars & breweries, been invited to beer events, few brewery tours, received beer mail and had the odd few free samples of some quality craft beers that are being brewed by our Aussie microbreweries.
