Scenic Rim Brewery – Fat Man Maroon Ale
This is the second of two beers brewed by the Scenic Rim Brewery (reviewed Digga’s Pale Ale on the 28/8/14), nestled out at Boonah, and as you can see they are themed named tribute beers with this one for the mighty Maroons.
Appearance in the glass is a fairly translucent dark red amber colour, low creamy off white head with good lacing around the glass as the head reduces. Has a sweet floral caramel aroma, with hints of honey and spice. Sweet caramel flavours from the malt, nutty aftertaste, mildly hoppy and well bittered, with a smooth mouthfeel.
Overall it is a easy drinking nicely balanced sessional beer – a good conversion beer for those willing to take the plunge away from the mainstream beers.

Granite Belt Brewery – IRA
Stanthorpe, Queensland wine capital is the home from where this beer came from – Granite Belt Brewery – IRA (Irish Red Ale).
This ale pours a dark copper reddish colour, not t real frothy head that quickly drops away to lace the edge of the glass. Low carbonation. Aroma is sweet with notes of honey caramels, floral and spice. Has a light bitterness finish, sweet balanced caramel flavour. A smooth light bodied beer – Nice easy drinking sessional ale from an area dominated by wine.
I have another 5 Granite Belt Brewery brews that I’ll road test in the up coming weeks!
