Sierra Nevada Porter
This porter comes from US brewery, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, that was born about the same time I was, so they must be doing something right based on that and there availability of their brews, even here in Oz.
The colour is dark, almost opaque but there is a slight red hue of colour that filters through. Head is beige and drops of to a fine lacing.A nice smell of chocolate and caramel roasted malts coming through and slight hint of coffee. More of a sweet caramel flavour in the taste however there smokey chocolate aftertaste.
Granite Belt Brewery – Pozières Porter
This Porter is another beer from the stables of the Granite Belt Brewery range. This Porter gets it’s name from -“Returning home from WWI the war veterans were offered ‘soldier settlement blocks’ of land in the Granite Belt. They named one of the regions ‘Pozières’ in reference to the battlefields they served in”.
The beer itself pours an opaque dark brown black colour with a tan head. You get chocolate, caramel and coffee aromas from the glass. Taste is a nice smooth roasted chocolate flavour, with a sweet caramel aftertaste. It’s not a heavy porter, medium bodied and a smooth mouthfeel.
A worthy drinking porter.
